Why did you start om?
 
I started this website because the topic of health and fitness is extremely important to me, and I think it is so important to take care of your own body, as well as your children’s bodies, by eating fresh, wholesome foods and staying active. om is a word that represents everything in the universe. It’s considered the most sacred mantra, a mantra and mystical sound of Hindu origin. Although everyone has their own specific opinion on the details of what it means, to me it means everything – the mind, the body, the spirit. The universe, us coming together as one. It’s beautiful and incredible. It suits everything I want this website to be: love and compassion for one another, respecting our bodies and each other, and the world we live in.
 
What do you love most about what you do?
 
I love what I do because it gives me a voice for things I’m passionate about. I think you should always do what makes you happy in life, something you will never grow tired of. I definitely love lots of different things, but one thing I will never get sick of is health and fitness. I love challenging my body, getting stronger, and feeling fit. I also love sharing with others, to help them feel this great in their own life as well.
 
What do you like to do in your spare time?
 
What DON’T I like to do is the real question. I believe that life is truly a gift, and that you should make every minute count. I love being outdoors, going for hikes and traveling the world. How do I know how many calories are in a recipe?
 
As I talk about on my site, I do think that tracking macros is very important to your health. It’s important to know how many calories you’re burning and consuming each day, and to ensure you are getting enough protein, carbs and fat, to minimize fat gain and maximize muscle gain. However, I don’t offer calorie information for the recipes on om, for good reason. I often use different brands or in most cases, make things from scratch, and everyone has their own personal preferences, so even just from one brand of food to another, the calorie count can be very different. So unless you make every recipe I post EXACTLY how I did every single time you make it, it’s not really helpful to you for me to just shoot out random macro amounts. I list recipes so you can use whatever brands or types of ingredients you want, so you can always make the same recipe, but change it to your liking, if needed. I also don’t like listing specific brands because they may not be available in your area, and I want anyone who reads my recipes to be able to make them, so there’s never a specific type or brand of ingredient needed. Don’t worry though, because if you’re like me and you like to track your daily calorie intake, it’s really easy to do so with any recipe on my site, as well as anywhere else for that matter. Just use a calorie counter to help you easily get the exact nutritional values for any recipe you prepare.
 
What is one of your favourite pieces of advice?
I think that we should always show compassion to one another, respect each other and love each other. We should be working together as one, not arguing, hurting, and harming others. Always do your best to stay happy and positive, to help others and bring them up when they’re feeling down. Be the best person you can be, each and every day. But remember to not only respect others, but of course yourself too. Surround yourself with the thinkers, the dreamers, people who are trying to make a change for the better in this world. There are always going to be those people who are negative and hurtful no matter what, and it’s important not to let that negativity get you down.
