If you love yoga as much as I do, you’ve probably tried out a ton of mats before. The yoga mat is one of the key essentials to any yoga workout. It provides you with a comfortable surface to perform your poses on, and is texturized to give you a better grip so you’re not sliding around. You can perform yoga pretty much anywhere, but a mat ensures you’re comfortable and helps prevent injury by providing traction.
A good yoga mat should be durable and slip-resistant, so you can maintain proper alignment as you move from one pose to another, even with light perspiration. Especially for hot yoga sessions, or if you like to do yoga outside in the sun, even during early morning (I like to get my yoga in before sunrise first thing in the morning after waking up, around 5am. It’s a great way to calm yourself, feel alive and get yourself ready for a great day ahead, especially if you have the space to do it outside) you can find yourself slipping and sliding around without a proper mat underneath you.
Of course, everyone has their own opinion, but mine is clear. I’ve done a lot of research on a lot of different mats, tried out most of these firsthand, and after finding this one, it was the clear choice to make.
The Black Mat PRO is it for me. I’ve tried tons of different brands, styles, colours, you name it. There are some pretty good ones out there, but this one beats them all.
This mat, which I consider as the ultimate yoga mat, works on any surface, and is made of an extremely high quality material. In fact, it comes with a lifetime guarantee against wear and tear. It actually improves over time, which is always nice to hear when you’re spending money on something (after all, besides a good wine and Liam Neeson, how many things can that be said about?). Oeko-Tex certified, emissions-free manufacturing, and perfectly cushioned at 1/4-inch thickness, this mat makes any surface a joy to practice on. It’s thick enough that it won’t ride up or bunch up on you during your yoga session, but it’s still lightweight enough to easily carry around.
Not only does it offer all that, but it’s also available in a couple different sizes, which I’ve found is not always an option with all mats. It comes in the standard 71-inch length, or (for you taller Amazon-ish women like myself, 5’10” and up) the longer 85-inch length ensures you have lots of room on your mat to move around, without your head or feet hanging off one end. (I’m tall and like a lot of extra space on my mat, particularly for the lying down poses, like Savasana). Ah, paradise.
This yoga mat makes a great investment, whether you’re just getting started with yoga now, or have been a yoga enthusiast for years.
