However, I also enjoy planning because it allows you to make the most of every day. That doesn’t mean you have to follow a tight schedule down to a tee, but it can be extremely useful in helping you make the most of the hours in the day.
Most people have at least a few things they need to do on a regular basis, whether that means going to work each morning, bringing children to and from school, attending extracurricular activities; whatever it may be. Most of us have a ton of things to fit in through the week and when you don’t put any effort into planning — and following — a schedule, your life can feel hectic and overwhelming.
It doesn’t have to get complicated. Between a Microsoft Word document and my cell phone, I’m set. The importance of a schedule is for more than just organization though, it can also boost your health. Maintaining the same schedule as often as possible, especially in regards to sleep, can do wonders for your health. You will sleep better and feel more awake when you get up, instead of feeling fatigued and sluggish. This also helps prevent insomnia and other sleeping disorders.
It’s important to have structure in life, and then get the best of both worlds, because you’ll find yourself with more free time leftover you can spend doing those spontaneous things you love.
I love getting my yoga session in each day at 5am, first thing after waking up, before the sunrise. This works perfectly with my schedule because between work and kid duties the rest of the day, there simply wouldn’t be time and yoga is one of my favourite things to do so I will make sure to fit it in somewhere. Not only is this the most convenient time for me personally, but it’s also my favourite time to do it — and the traditional way, during the Amrit Vela or the Ambrosial Hours, just before sunrise — because it helps me focus and feel grateful, fresh and excited for the new day ahead.
The most important thing in life is to have fun. To enjoy your life and those you love, and try to do what you can to be happy and make the world a better place. You should never feel as though you have to stick to a schedule “or else”, but it definitely does help you stay focused and make every day count.
A schedule is also great to help you keep track of doctor and other appointments, goals you have and things you’d like to do. It’s an easy way to stay organized and focused, and feel more accomplished at the end of the day instead of stressed out, trying to remember what you need to do for the week.
If you haven’t tried this before, give it a shot and see what you think. Even just for a couple of weeks or a month, start using a datebook or the calendar on your phone or computer. You’ll be amazed at how many more things you can fit into your day when you do.
